THE SOVIET FACTORIN THE UKRAINIAN-POLISH CONFLICT 1939–1945.IN THE VISION OF THE POLISH UNDERGROUND

The analysis of the documents of the Polish underground during the Second World War was carried out. The infl uence of the «third force», namely, Bolshevik Moscow, on the instigation of Ukrainian-Polish enmity during this period is singled out. The state of scientifi c development of this issue is studied, the most important works dedicated to the vision of the Ukrainian-Polish issue in the 1940s of the 20th century are singled out. It has been found that information about Soviet interference in the aff airs between Ukrainians and Poles can be found in appeals, reports, conspiratorial publications, but at the same time, the need for a critical attitude to Polish documents as sources is emphasized. On the basis of the collected material, the understanding of the representatives of the Polish underground of the Soviet presence in their confl ict with the Ukrainians is shown. It is emphasized that in some places the Poles called the Soviets the biggest enemies not only of Poland, but also of Ukraine. It was noted that in separate theses of the documents, Poles were forbidden to join Soviet partisan units and it was indicated that Poles would not independently and deliberately take up arms against Ukrainians. Methods of inciting the Poles against the Ukrainians by the Soviets and vice versa have been determined. It is indicated that the Bolsheviks sought at least to spread their invading infl uence on Ukrainian and Polish territories, wanted to make the independent existence of the Ukrainian and Polish peoples impossible, tried to make them quarrel with each other in order to prevent the development of independence ideas among Ukrainians and Poles. On the basis of the documents, the desire of the Soviets to show Ukrainians in the international arena only from a negative point of view after the Second World War, presenting them as murderers and thieves who do not deserve their own independent state, is highlighted.The Polish vision of the infl uence of the Bolsheviks on Ukrainian nationalists is shown, the propaganda activity of Soviet political agents is described, and the topic of the Soviet position regarding the then borders is discussed. It is concluded that Polish conspiratorial documents can provide us with information about the «third force» of the Ukrainian-Polish confl ict, but this information should be critically analyzed and not blindly accepted.
