Abstract

The article focuses on a “post-communism syndrome” in functioning of the Polish state in 1989–2005. It analyses certain specific traits of political culture of Polish society which are explained by axiology, i.e., prevalence of traditional moral values in public opinion. Polish opinion-making media are dominated by an axiological perspective: political values and issues are considered in the context of morality. The article focuses on how this perspective revealed itself in the analysis of functioning of the Polish state in 1989–2005 in the following media outlets: Gazeta Wyborcza, Kultura (of Gedroyc), Polityka, Tygodnik powszechny, and Niedziela.
