The article analyses Ukrainian-Polish discussions about the renewal and opening of the Polish Military Memorial “The Young Eagles Cemetery” (Cmentarz Orlat) on the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv. It focuses on the course of intergovernmental negotiations and their interpretation in Polish (Gazeta Wyborcza, Rzеczpospolita, Polityka) and Ukrainian (Vysokyi Zamok, Postup) newspapers. It argues that this complicated problem was resolved owing to participation in the negotiations and discussions of central government’s representtives, intellectuals, Roman Catholic and Greek Catholic Church leaders. The solution of the “Cemetery problem” and unveiling of the Ukrainians and Polish military memorials became a significant act of reconciliation between the Poles and the Ukrainians.
