KORTELISY’S “BLACK WEDNESDAY” OF SEPTEMBER 23, 1942

Abstract

The article highlights the reasons, details and consequences of an atrocious Nazi war crime perpetrated on the Ukrainian-Belarusian borderland in a response to activities of the Soviet partisans. It established participation of Nürnberg Order Police Battalion in the destruction of the village of Kortelisy and in murdering almost all of its inhabitants.  The study shows how the tragic events developed and what the fate of the perpetrators from this Battalion was after the war.
