The article analyses the process of national self-identification of population in the Ukrainian-Polish-Slovak borderlands (Lemko region) in the 1930s. Based on a wide variety of sources the article demonstrates that this process was not homogeneous: among the local population there were adherents of Ukrainian national orientation, of Russophilism, and Old Ruthenians.
